Rosemary Smith

Rosemary Antionette Darilek, 92 of Kent Washington passed away peacefully Friday , September 22, 2017 at Chateau Assisted Living in Renton , Washington. She was a vibrant and optimistic lady all of her life. Rosemary was born July 16, 1925 to Anton William Darilek and Francis G. Bordofsky Darilek in Shiner, Texas . Her father built and opened new schools where he was a principal also . Her mother was a teacher and instilled the great desire in Rosemary to pursue education . Rosemary graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went straight to college in Austin , Texas graduating with a degree in Journalism . Rosemary was an avid swimmer and recalls many stories of swimming in the San Marcos River and being in swimming shows during special events. Rosemary 's dream was to be able to travel and while working for the Park Service as a bookkeeper she saw a job opening in Japan for the Douglas McArthur Administration working with classified documents. She remembers calling her mother and exclaiming " Mama , I made it ! " She climbed Mt.Fuji the day before it erupted and visited the shrines and gardens around Tokyo till she met her incredible partner , Cliff. Their joyous union on September 20 , 1950 in Tokyo was the beginning of a lifelong journey of marvelous travel . Cliff's work with IBM took him all over the globe until 1952 when they came back to the States. Mark was born in Walnut Creek , California in 1954 . Gail was born in Poughkeepsie , New York in 1955. A new journey with a family took them to countless places of exploration in the 14 airplanes Cliff flew . National Parks, desert rock hunting , skiing and hiking in the mountains of California , travels to Alaska and back to Japan with Cliff were all dreams that came true for Rosemary . The stories of her life with Cliff , navigating trips, helping run his aviation business and the funny antics while traveling brought much laughter and learning to all those who had the opportunity to hear . Rosemary is survived by her two children, Mark ( Jeannine ) Smith of Great Falls, Montana and Gail ( Perry ) Gillette of Paul , Idaho. She is survived by 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; Shawn ( Christy ) Smith and kids Logan , Tanner, Jesse , Scott Smith and daughter Sophie, Tallan ( Chad ) Schow and kids Brenner, Hailey, Addison, Ella, Austin ( Rachel ) Gillette and kids Tori, Kennedy, Layton, Oakli, Gifford ( Marisol ) Gillette and sons Nash, L.A. , Holland, Boston, Stafford ( Gina ) Gillette and kids Ben, Lincoln , Revere, Liberty, Damon ( Megan ) Gillette and kids Sandy, Jared, Deider, Jordan ( Trisha ) Gillette. David Darilek ;nephew, Bob ( Marilyn ) Darilek ; nephew , Lisa ( David ) McCutchen ; niece , Susie (Jim) Trescher ; niece , Ron ( Kathy ) Darilek ; nephew , Don ( Lucy ) Darilek ; nephew , Dave (Jo ) Smith (Brother and sister in-law) and sons Mike ( Rachel ) Smith; nephew and Tom (Gloria ) Smith; nephew, Kay Smith Evans ; niece . Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband , Clifford D. Smith Jr. , Anton and Francis Darilek ; parents , Clifford D. and Katherine Smith : parents in-law and Pete Smith ; nephew .
