Maple Valley, Washington
Phillip Duncan (Phil) Parshall born in Lima, Ohio April 6, 1959, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. He fought a long arduous battle with end stage liver disease and cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend, whose warmth loyalty and gentle faith left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Phil’s life was defined by a strong Christian faith with his belief in Jesus at the core of his being. He lived his beliefs not through words alone but through the quiet consistent way he showed up for people. He was the kind of man who picked up the phone, drove to the airport, sat in the driveway for just 5 more minutes of conversation and said exactly the right thing when you needed it most. Phil was a devoted adoring husband to the love of his life Hedy. Together they made their home in Maple Valley, raising their son Jason, of whom Phil was enormously proud.
One of Phil’s most defining characteristics was his love of music. He was accomplished on the guitar, bass and banjo. He had eclectic tastes ranging from his love of Buddy Holly to rock-n-roll, bluegrass, classical, and gypsy jazz. The sound of Phil’s guitar playing filled his home to the point that Jason’s first word was “g’tah”. Phil was also an avid reader, demonstrated by the countless boxes of books in his home. He enjoyed everything from our best Christian apologists such as C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton to poetry to modern day thrillers.
He grew up mainly in Mason, Ohio and graduated from Ohio University in Athens, OH with a degree in education. There he made many cherished lifelong friends. He taught elementary school; but after meeting Hedy, he moved to Washington to be with her. Later he joined the army and served as a reservist. There he was trained as a radiologic technologist. He went back to school earning a master’s degree in special education from Seattle University. He worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative and finished his work life as a radiologic technologist. Throughout every chapter of his professional life, Phil brought the same qualities he brought to everything – reliability, kindness, humor, and genuine care for others.
Proceeded in death by his father Hugh, Phil’s legacy of love, faith, and music continues to reverberate in the hearts of those he left behind. Phil is survived by his wife, Hedy, son Jason, mother Phyllis, brother Hugh “Todd”, nephew Matthew, Hedy’s brother Danny and her sister and brother-in-law Deverie and Pete Thompson and their children Jared and Nikki.
