Matthews Odom Obituary (1942

Matthews Odom Sr., 72, of Kent, WA passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Tahoma National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Matthews Odom was born on November 30, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to the union of the late Fred Odom, Sr. and Etta Clay Odom. Matthews attended the public schools in Beaumont, Texas and graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School. Brother Matthews Odom, Sr. was a member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX. He attended two years of college at Lamar University and was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart Recipient. Bro. Matthews Odom was honorably discharged. Upon returning from the military Matthews met and married Mrs. Versie Lee Knighton. To this union was born twin sons Matthews Odom Jr. and Mark Odom, Sr. He was employed by Kansas City Southern Railroad in Beaumont, TX. He later relocated to Seattle, WA where he lived with his brother Lawrence (Shirley) Odom and their family for many years. He later relocated to Kent, WA. He was known as a prayer warrior and faithfully sent up prayer requests through KRIZ radio station for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and five of his brothers, Murry, Fred Jr., Lawrence, John, and Joseph Odom. He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Matthews Odom Jr. of Beaumont, TX and Mark Odom Sr. (Madeline) of Marion, AR; granddaughters, Mariah, Mar'Kayla, Madison; and grandson Mark Odom Jr. all of Marion, AR; special niece, Marcha Odom King; brother, Pastor James Odom (Betty) of Seattle, WA; sisters Sarah Turner of Seattle, WA and Ethel Lee August of Beaumont, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Special Thanks to his guardian, Sarah Mills and to Mr. and Mrs. Bayna and all the staff of ABC Dwelling.
